survey Charity Pub Quiz (winter term 2019)

history

Usually at a Pub Quiz everyone has to pay a small fee in order to be allowed to participate. The money that is collected through that fee would then be given to the winning team in the end. In our case the money, that is collected from the participants will be used for a good cause. And at ESN Graz we already organise these Pub Quizes since 2016, so that we finally can call them "Charity Pub Quiz". What started with an idea of a highly motived team member, became bigger and even more regular each semester - finding more and more team members who go along with that idea at ESN Graz as well. In the beginning that event enriched the so called SocialErasmus week, but the project was not limited to a specified week only. The SocialErasmus project reminds us fun could not just go along for a good reason, but also grows out of it. Now, a couple of semesters later we still want to improve that!

A little spoiler here: ESN Graz wants to support the potential donee even more, beyond your support by participating in the Charity Pub Quiz!

But first, how come, that ESN Graz can give away money? It's also a quite long history in ESN Graz... It all started on the 1st of January in 2009, like as a New Year's resolution announced in December 2008, when the whole Erasmus Student Network called up all the sections to raise some money for a good cause the upcoming months. ESN International and 278 sections in 32 countries supported the Kingdom of Bhutan. Back in 2009 it was the first party in ESN Graz (the 'Erasmus night' that time), when we declared ourself ready to comply with the call of ESN International. The goal of 100.000,- Euro within not even one year was enormous, and sadly could not have been fullfilled - but it still were the sections of ESN together with international students, who could gather noteworthy 54.190,- Euro until the 16th of Oct, 2009 - marking the 20th birthday of Erasmus Student Network. The project run under the name 'giveXX' - give20, a fundraising campaign of ESN for UNICEF. It should guarantee disadvantaged children the access to education.

ESN Graz fell in love with the project and liked the idea so much, that our forerunners decided even in 2009 already to keep that willingness to achieve further charity and voluntarily self-imposed that goals onto us. Since then we agreed 1 Euro of each visitor of our parties would be used for a good cause. ESN Graz felt this accessory obligation - but instead of really feeling obliged, those procedures became a wonderful tradition we still keep. And with the 2016 introduced Charity Pub Quiz (participation fee at least 2 Euro) we are even more supporting social projects regularly with considerable financial contributions.

In fact we internally created rules how potential donees will be elected - and even more how money will be passed to them. Until it comes to the payout, funds will be deposited separately till the earmarked money reaches a certain limit. It is very important to us that this limit is declared as an amount of money, with which small societies and organisations could already implement or complete projects, so that they are able to make use of it. And instead of waiting until the next chance comes we want to encourage you to generously participate in the Charity Pub Quiz by doubling the amount of money collected from your participation! That money will be used for a specific purpose in a charity project!

ESN Graz combines fun with social commitment!

principles/criteria for potential donees

Charitable small societies, institutions and organisations, whose specific projects could be implemented or completed with our help, should serve the purpose especially of caritative, social needs, as the case may be with an education-related aspect on preferably local scale!

We also call all our team members regularly to find new potential donees - but please also feel invited, if you already have ideas for proper donees!

Just get in touch with us, we want to hear your ideas! :)

survey rules

The survey consists of collected potential organisations, from which you could vote on 1 at the maximum. An unattendance at the survey will be classified as an abstention. The pool of donees is containing potential organisations, which were not supported the last 5 years by at least 1.000,- Euro (as the amount of money will be for each donee at our upcoming International Dinner again). Also potential organisations, which we haven't ever supported have been taken out, because of giving them a higher chance to be selected within a survey for team members only (where the amount of money will be 1.000,- Euro for each). And out of the remaining potential organisations (meaning they also have the chance to a higher amount of money, but within more votes over semesters) we randomly selected 3 organisations, so that the range won't get out of hand and would just be unimaginable. Deadline of the survey will be 27th of Nov., 2019 - 14:00 (2.00pm).

Interested international students as well as ESN Graz team members will be asked to participate in the survey - and hopefully benevolently in the event as well!

sequence - and how will it go on?

At the bottom you will find the potential donees including a short description, which kind of organisation it is or what it is about. This should help you with your choice.

The organisation with the majority of votes will be the lucky one. Independent from this survey and its result all organisations afterwards will go back into the pool again, waiting for the next chance to be supported financially (under the same conditions as told above).

Besides after vote count we will contact the potential donee and ask them to show us which project they will use the financial support on. We will arrange an appointment to hand over the support formally, later via financial operation.

The result will be presented directly at Charity Pub Quiz or could be asked getting in touch with us afterwards!

...so, finally!

During the period of the survey the selection will be considered respectively displayed below!
